Montreal is full of little surprises and hidden places if you know where to look, such as this sculpture garden on René Lévesque Boulevard. Facing the Canadian Centre for Architecture, at first glance it looks like an abandoned if well kept fortification.
The “ruins” as I sarcastically like to call them are really just a duplicate of the base of the original house, which is over the road. The whole garden makes for an interesting and pleasant space. On the far side of the garden is a modest lookout over the immediate South of the city.
Although a little off the beaten track, it’s pretty straight forward to get there. The closest Métro station is Georges-Vanier on the Orange Line, where taking one of the footpaths that goes under the Expressway will get you there in a matter of minutes. Or, taking the Green Line to Guy-Concordia Metro and leaving from the westernmost exit, a walk west along de Maisonneuve and then south down Rue Fort.
